Scarlett Johansson's biography
Scarlett was born in New York on the 22nd of November 1984 in New York as Scarlett Marie Johansson. Since her parents divorced she first spent some time with her father in New York and part of the time with her mother living in Los Angeles. Being a child she attended the actor school Lee Strasberg in New York. Her acting career started in 1992 in LA in Sophistry, a theatre piece taken off the broadway.
Two years later viewers could witness her first debut in North, playing the role of Laura Nelson, a comedy by Rob Reiner. The film has been critised heavily by James Berardinelli as well as Roger Ebert who claimed North is among the worst films ever produced. The film cost 40 mio dollars and played in some 7 mio in US cinemas.
By the way - her rather unusual name Scarlett was given by her parents after seeing "Gone with the wind". In this film Ashley Wilkes plays Scarlett O'Hara. After playing in Norther Scarlett played in the less known films If Lucy Fell and Just Cause. In 1996 she got her first prime role in Manny & Lo for which she was nominated for in the Independant Spirit Awards of the following year.
Scarlett became even more popular in 1998 after taking part in the film The Horse Whisperer where she played alongside Robert Redford as Grace MacLean loosing a leg after an accident with a horse. Redford was fire and flame for the 14 year old Scarlett. For this film she received the Young Star Award for the best performance in the category Drama.
After all this Scarlett played some smaller parts in My Brother the Pig as Kathy Caldwell, The Man Who Wasn't There as Birdy Abundas and in Ghost World....
